English giltwood side table of the late 1730s, carrying an eighteenth-century specimen top of hardstones, marbles and Derbyshire Blue John. The slab is laid in a geometric tablet pattern within a blocked border. The frieze is carved with Vitruvian scroll and acanthus, a draped female mask at the centre of the apron, and four cabriole legs headed by lion masks that finish in hairy-hock paw feet. Width 131 cm, depth 67 cm, height 82 cm. Gilding sits on a mahogany carcass. Small losses along the stone border. Offered as a Georgian furniture collector’s piece; later polishing and associated wear as visible in the photographs.
