Qing gilt copper-alloy elephant supporting a lobed vase, inlaid throughout with coloured glass. The animal is cast with long tusks, veined ears and a densely chased wrinkled hide, a saddlecloth with bajixiang over waves, and a vase with lotus-petal and leiwen borders. The group stands on a four-legged plinth with a pierced apron, ruyi band and openwork rail. Overall height 57.8 cm, length 37.1 cm, width 13.7 cm. An auspicious taiping youxiang composition of the Qianlong to Jiaqing period, assembled from separately cast parts. Offered as a Chinese works-of-art collector’s lot; later restoration, if any, as visible.
